What are the criteria for rating presentation applications?

Our review board will consider each presentation application carefully. We are looking for practical, innovative presentations that display academic and professional excellence. With this in mind, they will examine each application with the following criteria in mind:

  • Does the application adhere to the proposal guidelines, clearly outlining the purpose, objectives, and summary of the presentation?

  • Does the applicant successfully show how/why their presentation fits their selected format?

  • Does the proposal offer a practical application in K-12 STEM classrooms?

  • Does the proposal display innovation, either in theory or practice?

  • Does the proposal display academic and professional excellence through content that is appropriate for a professional development setting?

What guidelines should I adhere to when submitting my bio?

Both individual and group presenters should follow these basic guidelines:

  • Word limit: 200 words

  • Please keep your biography short, professional, and relevant to your presentation. STEMCON attendees read bios to get a sense of who you are, what work you do, and why your background contributes to the presentation you are giving at STEMCON.

Group presenters, please only submit one biography for the whole group.

What guidelines should I adhere to when uploading a profile picture?

All photos should adhere to the guidelines listed below. Group presenters, please submit an individual photo for each member of your team.

  • Pictures should be a professional “headshot” — shoulders, neck, and head

  • Presenter should be looking at the camera

  • Professional clothing is recommended – avoid t-shirts, swimwear, etc.

  • No action shots (i.e. photos of you presenting or teaching)

  • Selfies are acceptable, but please do not submit photos that are obviously selfies

  • Full-color photos, no black and white

  • Minimum photo resolution: 300 DPI

  • If you are presenting in a group, please submit individual photos for each member

  • If you are a teacher, a yearbook photo will usually fulfill all of these requirements

What is a curriculum burst?

This new type of presentation was requested by many previous STEMCON attendees. The 20-minute sessions will be used as a setting to introduce part of or a whole curriculum used in a K-12 STEM setting. This space can be used to share lesson plans, resource lists, project rubrics, and more.

Can I submit an abstract for an academic paper?

No. STEMCON does not have the capacity at this time to review and accept proposals to present on the findings of academic papers.

I have a really cool business or service that could benefit K-12 STEM Educators. Can I apply to present at STEMCON?

While we do not allow sales pitches in the breakout sessions, we do have plenty of other opportunities for you to show off your company. Please see our {sponsor page [link]} for more information on becoming a sponsor or vendor.

My application has been accepted! Now what?
